French Impressionist Reproductions

French impressionists tried to capture the momentary effects of light, using thick, loose brush strokes of contrasting colors; often painting outdoors (plein air) to capture landscapes and contemporary everyday French life.  The term “impressionism” was given to this style of painting in a derisory review by art critic, Louis Leroy, after seeing “Claude Monet’s painting, titled: Impression, Sunrise.
